D.O.C. Tuscia wines
The D.O.C. Est! Est!! Est!!!
This wine is surely the most known Tuscia wine in the world.
This is a white wine mildly aromatic with apple notes and high acidity. Locally, the wine is often paired with Roman cuisine such as fritto misto and deep-fried artichokes.
The Aleatico di Gradoli D.O.C.
This one is an amazing red and strong wine perfect for desserts. The Aleatico di Gradoli is garnet-red in colour, with purple hues; it is delicately aromatic, fruity and characteristic on the nose; on the palate it is mellow and velvety with notes of fresh fruit.
The Colli Etruschi Viterbesi D.O.C.
This denomination includes many different wines like Procanico, Grechetto, Canaiolo, Merlot and many others.
The Tarquinia D.O.C.
This classification includes a series of red, white and rosé wines produced in Tarquinia, a village along the cost, between Viterbo and Rome.
The Cerveteri D.O.C.
This denomination includes both white and red wines.
The white is perfect with first course with pasta and fish, the red one instead, with its strong flavor is suggested to be consumed with meat.
The Vignanello D.O.C.
This village is famous for the wine production and in summer, exactly in the middle of august, there is a beautiful wine festival that lasts 1 week. The white wines are made with Greco and Trebbiano grapes, the red instead is made using San Giovese grape.
The Orvieto D.O.C.
This classification White Orvieto wine is composed primarily of Grechetto and Trebbiano and a blend of Malvasia, Drupeggio, Verdello and Canaiolo bianco grapes.
The red ones instead, are made by many differents types of grape like Aleatico, Barbera, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Canaiolo, Cesanese, Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Dolcetto, Merlot, Montepulciano, Pinot nero and Sangiovese.
I.G.T. Tuscia Wines
The Civitella d’Agliano I.G.T.
This includes wines smooth, sparkling, red and wine. This one are considered some of the best wines in Lazione and in the whole Italy.
The Colli Cimini I.G.T.
Even this includes both wine red and white. Especially the red one are great to be drunk with local dry desserts made with chestnuts and hazelnuts.
Other typical drinks
Locally there is another very appreciated drink, which is the Viterbese Sambuca.
During the second world war all the companies specialized in this product were destroyed. Despite this, the modern recipe, based on anise and elder flowers, is very similar at the old one.
